Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer Constable Brain Kasu has been charged RTGS$3 million as compensation for assaulting and ill-treating a 27-year old woman who turned down his sexual advances.
Represented by Zimbabwe Human Rights lawyer Peggy Tavagadza, Nomatter Chikunguru filed summons to Rusape Magistrate Court demanding compensation following a violation of her rights by Kasu.
Chikunguru claimed RTGS$3 million which she said RTGS$2780 was compensating for her medical expenses as she had sustained injuries on her body.
She said RTGS$2 997 220 was covered damages.
Chikunguru, a mortician at Heritage Funeral Parlour the incident took place in April.
“I was assaulted, brutally treated and forced into the Zimbabwe Republic Polices vehicle to go to the police station after denying Kasu a sleep over,” she said.
“I was walking home from work and met a police man who asked if I stayed with anyone because he wanted sleep over, I told him that I was not interested in sleeping with him.
“I was taken to the police where I was detained and charged with charges of assaulting and restricting a police officer which attracts an imprisonment of not more than ten years or fine not exceeding level twelve.”
