The Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has released the 2020 ordinary level results which will be available for collection at all ZIMSEC regional centres with students able to access their results on ZIMSEC portal Monday.

Results show an 11 percent decrease in pass rate and a significant decrease in the number of candidates who sat for the November 2020 examinations.

The decrease in candidature was as a result of the destructions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic as the school calendar was heavily disrupted.

Addressing the media on the release of results, Professor Mhonde said the marking process considered the very difficult conditions under which candidates wrote their examinations in.

“The 2020 was heavily disrupted, however the pass rate is within the range as there are slight differences from the ranges that we witnessed in the years 2014 and 2017 where pass rates were 22,4 percent and 28,7 percent respectively,” he said.

“The pass rate has decreased from 36,6 percent in 2019 to 24,8 percent in 2020 making it a 6,8 in the pass rate.”

“Most countries have also experienced a decrease in pass rates.”

The performance of candidates was analysed in four sections to that is the school candidates, private candidates, female candidates, male candidates and special needs candidates.

All sections experienced a decrease in in pass rate in exception of the private candidates whose pass rate increased with 1,04 percent.
