Some traders in and around the capital city are no longer accepting the ZWL50 Bon note as a legal tender effectively taking them out of circulation which has left many customers stranded
In an interview with Sly Media Warren Park residents expressed their agony following the current situation in the area as vendors and supermarkets are rejecting 50 bond notes.
“I am not happy with what is going on in our area, how can these vendors reject the money that we are earning from our hustles, as for me I pick used bottles and I am being paid in bond notes.
“I asked one vendor why they are rejecting money she told me that I should go and buy tomatoes at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)where 50 bond notes are being accepted,” said Tichaona Mangunde.
Another resident said that, this system of rejecting money is causing more harm than good to the country’s economy.
“These people especially vendors, conductors and supermarkets who are rejecting money should be put in jail because they are causing harm to the country’s economic growth.
“If we continue keeping quiet these people will make even the remaining 100 bond notes to be rejected again because this is not the first time this is happening,” added Josiah Kanengoni.
A disabled man said that people should consider those who are not working because of their conditions.
“Look at me how will I be able to get USD from the money I am getting from begging to feed my family it’s not right at all.
“Yesterday I was hurt I got in a supermarket and when I was about to pay I was told that 50 bond notes are no longer accepted and they told me to go and try in bigger supermarkets like TM,Spar and Ok,” said Mugove.
Maria Saimani a Mbare resident said that this is a worrisome situation because she said she has recently got her salary in Zimbabwean dollars ( ZWL) and 50 bond notes are part of the money she received.
“I am stressed and I don’t know what to do anymore last week I received my salary in ZWL and unfortunately I woke up to this story.
“I cannot buy or travel because whatever I want to do requires money and the money that I have is said to be out of use,”s he said.
