The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) has suspended import of maize and maize meal with immediate effect.
In a statement AMA chief executive officer Clever Isaya said, “The Agricultural Marketing Authority wishes to advise all grain Miller’s and grain traders that all maize and maize meal imports are suspended with immediate effect, until further notice.
“All grain millers are directed to buy their maize from the Grain Marketing Board.”
This suspension is as a result of the bumper harvest expected in the country this season with 2.8 million tonnes expected to be delivered to the Grain Marketing Board.
During the 2020/2021 cropping season, crop hectarage increased by 23 percent at the back of abundant rainfall, early distribution of inputs and increased support of farmers by Government.
