Tthe Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) is on the move to turning Chiwadzwa Primary School buildings into modern structures
Recently the diamond mining company finished two modern blocks for the primary school that are now providing a good studying environment for the school kids.
In an interview with Sly Media TV during a media tour organised by the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and ZCDC, Chiwadzwa Primary School headmistress, Shamiso Chinyenze applauded ZCDC for their Corporate Social Responsibility benefitting the school and the community at large.
“The blocks will benefit 348 students.
Of late we received the main line of electricity,” she said.
She added that the developments were also a call for the community to realise the importance of diamonds to them.
According to Chinyenze, the project started last year, and the first block was completed last term, and currently, they are waiting for the handover of the second one.
“The diamond company has improved this school, and the community is now seeing the fruits of the diamonds being taken from their locality,” she added.
Cbinyenze also believes that a good studying environment directly impacts how a student performs in school.
Despite ZCDC having improved the school, some parents are now reluctant to pay school fees for their children as they are thinking ZCDC should do that too.
“The developments will improve the pass rate because the community does not take education that seriously, but this, I think the pass rate will improve.
“We do not have problems with the attendance rate; the only problem is fee payment because they are now thinking that the company should also pay school ffeesfor them, but we are thinking of educating them.
“Our school fees at this school are just twenty dollars per term,” she said.
Speaking during the same event, ZCDC head of public relations and community development Sugar Chagonda said that they are reconstructing these blocks in phases.
“We finished these two blocks in phases after destroying two old blocks.
“On our third phase, we are going to demolish these other two remaining blocks and reconstruct them again.
” Also, the main line of electricity is already here. We call this working progress,” he said.
