Esnath Mutuki (61) and Faniel Kudiwa (48) from Chiredzi were charged for contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act after being found in possession of zebra and crocodile hides.
It is in the state case that in August, acting on a tip off, a team comprising of officials from CID MFFU Chiredzi and Zimparks posed as potential buyers of zebra hides approached Kudiwa who took them to Mutuki’s house.
Mutuki then showed the team a sack with zebra hide which had been treated with coarse salt.
It is the State’s case that the team of detectives asked for more hides, upon which Mutuki led them to another room where there were shown two sacks containing crocodile skin.
The detectives then identified themselves to the accused persons and arrested the accused persons and in the process recovered six zebra hides and one crocodile skin valued at US$19 500.
