The #5th woman I am celebrating as we count down to #IWD2021 is Nyarai Kachere
We met in 1999 when we enrolled for journalism at Harare Poly.
She is such a phenomenal woman who has a very kind heart.
One time, she was on duty and interviewed this mother who had given birth to an HIV positive daughter.
The daughter was already on ARVs but the mother was failing to provide adequate food for the daughter to eat before she can take her medication.
Moved by the state of affairs, Nyarai then decided to take the little girl to her home.
She took care of the daughter and ensured that she attended school and never miss taking her medication.
I could write a whole book about her acts of generosity.
I am just amazed by her love.
Back in college, she accompanied me all the way to Masvingo for my 21st birthday celebrations and made the cake (not sure if she is the one who made it though.
She has been with me even in my darkest hour. I appreciate her for who she is in my life. But today am celebrating her for the steps she has made professionally from the time she joined Zimpapers.
She is the current Deputy News Editor Convergence at The Herald.
Management positions in the media are often occupied by men, so when your own sis is somewhere in management, you should brag.
Oh by the way, you may wonder why I put the pic with her in Salvation Army Uniform.
Back then when we were in college, I accidentally burnt her Salvation Army hat when I wanted to dry it.
I don’t think she has ever forgiven me for that mistake. So am hoping if many of you like this post and celebrate her achievements, and maybe say sorry on my behalf, she may eventually forget .
You make me proud sis .
