The union’s president, Obert Masaraure told Sly Media News members were demanding salaries backdated to October.

“We demand pre-October salaries,” he said.

“We were there to draw inspiration from Nehanda.

” The demonstration was a success as the comrades we deployed drew some inspiration from Mbuya Nehanda.”

Zimbabwe National Teachers Union (Zinatu) chief executive officer Manuel Nyawo in January wrote to Primary and Secondary Education minister Paul Mavima seeking clarity on when Government would review teachers’ salaries.

Last year, government and teachers fought endless battles over salary issues, with the latter downing tools demanding at least US$520 or its equivalent in local currency.

In November last year, Government offered a 41 percent pay rise, but teachers dismissed it as a mockery.
