Zimbabwe is such an irrelevant and unattractive destination for South African rich and famous. That is something that we must interrogate and then design a national strategy to make it attractive.
The SA millionaires are always saying its first time to be in Zimbabwe. Some like Somizi during the Garwe re-opening debacle never. Millionaires most of them never.
The artist come and put bare minimum effort with Jah Prayzer, Macheso etc always rescuing their shows yet paid tonnes more than local artists.
Our artist, best of breed, go to play there to Zimbabweans & SA people really don’t care. Their millionaires business people don’t even pay attention to us except an attempt by one Mzi Khumalo at some point.
Flipside there is no Zim millionaires who isn’t invested in SA, banks in SA, visits SA dozens of times in a year there, send children for education etc. In fact, religious leaders, business people and hustlers from Zimbabwe stay in SA then visit Zimbabwe on a per need basis.
So how do we expect money to stay in Zimbabwe when our people keep it in SA and SA people come to harvest it. We also a supermarket for SA luxuries. We consume their entertainment and prefer paying them more than locals even for just photo opportunities.
Celebrated village being run by people with little or no vision on destination and country marketing.
