Proflight Zambia Flies With Fully Vaccinated Crew

Proflight Zambia has operated its first flight with a fully vaccinated crew on its flagship 50-seater Bombardier CRJ-100 jet on the Lusaka-Johannesburg route.

The flight took off from the newly opened Kenneth Kaunda International Airport Terminal two on the 10th August, captained by Captain Josias Walubita, First Officer Mwamba Sampa, with Senior Flight Attendant Penjani Kakwende, all of whom have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

“This is an important milestone for Zambia’s aviation industry as we flying into the new normal, said Proflight Zambia Director Flight Operations Captain Josias Walubita.

“As Zambia’s leading airline, we will do all we can to help eradicate the virus while also minimising its impact on local air travel.”

Captain Walubita added that the airline recognised the vaccine’s role in COVID-19 prevention, noting that having a vaccinated crew was cardinal in helping airlines effectively combat the spread of the virus and ensure passenger safety.

“Aside from strict adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures, we have been encouraging our frontline personnel to participate in the ongoing voluntary vaccination drive as an extra-line of defence against the disease. We take the safety of our employees and passengers very seriously and the airline’s principles are built around that,” he added.

Since COVID restrictions on public transport were eased to allow air travel last year, Proflight has taken an uncompromising stance to help stop the virus’ spread.

The airline has encouraged its staff to get vaccinated in order to protect themselves and the passengers from the spread of the virus.

“I feel confident being out there after getting vaccinated, I know that I’m safe and that the passengers are also safe in my presence.” Senior Flight Attendant, Penjani Kakwende.

First Officer Mwamba Sampa added that it was important to get vaccinated because it helps our fight against COVID.

Facemasks are mandatory for passengers and crew on all flights, while surfaces like armrests, tables, seats, and others that passengers may come into contact with on the plane are thoroughly disinfected after each trip.

Proflight Zambia’s proactiveness in safety has made it the airline of choice for both domestic and international travellers as the world slowly recovers from the unprecedented outbreak.
