The President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially commissioned a batch of 50 new ZUPCO buses Friday at the company’s headquarters in Harare.

This latest batch brings the total to 212 buses  so far with more expected soon.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Harare, President said the government was committed to easing transport challenges by wailing reliable and affordable transport to the people.

‘ My administration will continue to guarantee improved public transport services  through the recapitalisation of ZUPCO as well as creating an enabling environment which will see the local assembly of buses and other vehicles ,”  the President said.

President Mnangagwa  also commented Harare Institute of Technology (HIT)’s technology in the production of tap card for  ZUPCO.

” l comment ZUPCO and the Harare Institute of Technology for developing and rolling out the tap card payment system . This innovation  will help improve the payment system on ZUPCO buses in line with the modern digital  trends   of public transport sector management.,’ Mnangagwa said.

The  ZUPCO Acting Chief Executive Officer Everesto Madangwa expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa  and government for the crucial role they are playing in assisting  the bus company to fulfil its mandate of providing safe reliable transport.
