People living positively with HIV in Mbare hailed the Zimbabwe National Network for People living with HIV (ZNNP+) in conjunction with National AIDS Council (NAC) for introducing support groups that are assisting these them to earn a living.
In various support groups people are specializing in different projects that are helping them financially, which include detergent making, soft drinks making, wool bags and shoes making among other projects.
Speaking during a media tour, Butawu from Mbare expressed her gratification towards the ZNP Plus for welcoming her into support groups despite her condition that she is blind.
“I want to thank ZNNP Plus for introducing these support groups and most important thing they did not look at my disability but they welcomed me and now I am a leader of my group.
“At my support group we are all old aged women there but we are doing well by teaching each other adherence that I was taught by NAC and we are into poultry project,” said Butawu.
Portia Mavhunga applauded ZNNP+ for introducing this initiative for the people living with HIV so that they have something to do using their hands.
“As a woman I am happy with this because I am leader of a support group called Murambatsvina in Mbare we specialize on making detergents and we are getting a profit to feed our families.
“We are learning much through ZNNP+ and through these support groups some people are joining because of some lessons we are teaching communities and churches they are no longer ashamed of disclosing their HIV status,” she said.
“I want to say to my fellow woman who are positive like me to join these support groups because we have our own projects that we do so as to better our lives.
“We are not ashamed of ourselves like before we can do anything using our hands, we can cook Sadza and sell in streets even if one of our friend pass on we can sponsor the whole funeral using the money we worked for in our supporting groups,” said Tandiwe Mazinefu
