Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals partnered with Higherlife Foundation to offer free Covid-19 PCR testing for secondary and tertiary students, starting on March 15 to March 22.
The tests will be conducted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ casualty car park.
Testing begin at 8am and end at 15.30 with 150 students expected to be served per day on first come first serve basis.
Students are required to bring their Institutional identity card and a letter from the Principal of their school, confirming the student status.
The free Covid-19 PCR tests for students are expected to benefit those that have not been able to afford to pay for the tests.
“Its best I know my status since some people are dying without showing much symptoms, this is an opportunity I am going to take, “ said Charmaine Gama a Women’s University student.
However, some students are reluctant to take the test.
“I fear needles and imagining it going into my nose is horrific” said Delroy Siyeba Form 3 student at Chinhoyi High School.
“I would not take advantage of this opportunity because it’s free, and you know what happens when people are getting something for free?
It will be crowded raising the chance of catching the virus while waiting in the line to get tested” said Carlos Sibanda a student at the University of Zimbabwe.
