After a heroic peformance which inspired Aston Villa to a 3-0 win against Everton over the weekend, Warriors midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba stumbled yesterday (Wednesday) night versus Chelsea in a Carabao Cup match played at Villa Park.
The Zimbabwean highly rated defensive midfielder missed a penalty during a penalty shoot-out resulting in Villa being knocked out of the competition.
The match had ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of play before heading straight to a penalty shoot out where Villa lost 4-3 resulting in Chelsea progressing to the next round.
The penalty miss did not sit well with Nakamba who took to his Tweeter account to apologise to his teammates, staff, fans and the entire club as a whole.
“I would like to apologise to all my team mates, coaching staff and most of all the fans who I have let down tonight,” he said.
Be rest assured that I will learn from this mistake and come back stronger.”
The Villa family including the club journalist Ashley Preece went on to back the former Bantu Rovers player and applauded his perfomance.
“We love you, Marvelous! You’ve been excellent!!” wrote the Birmingham and Aston Villa News correspondent, Preece.
Fans also shared their sentiments towards Nakamba’s apology.
PWB Villa posted, “I’m surprised at this, you were my man of the match.”
“I recall you tracking back and winning the ball which I was so impressed with.
“If only another certain player had the same level of effort and commitment we could have squeezed a win in normal time.
“Well done Marv.”
Jotopsy posted, “You have nothing to apologise for.
“You gave us options with your performance against Everton.
“Can’t wait to see more of you.
“One kick never defines the player.
“We love you Marvelous. UTV!!”
