Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDCA) women, Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbira who were arrested for violating Covid-19 regulations have re-applied for bail.
The two have been in remand since last month with the courts denying them to bail two times.
Mamombe and Chimbiri are facing allegations of violating Covid-19 regulations after they addressed a press conference last month, when they attended court in solidarity with the convicted, Makomborero Haruzivishe.
Their lawyer, Aleck Muchadehama pleaded with the court that the two be released and said the allegations against the accused did not require further investigations.
He queried why his clients were still being held
“The matter does not need any investigation,” argued Muchadehama. “Why do the accused persons continue to be remanded in custody.”
“The lack of enthusiasm by the State to speed up the trial is vindictive and that shows there is no better care about the accused persons.”
Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti challenged the fresh application saying the defense had not shown any changed circumstances to the duo’s case.
The matter was postponed to Tuesday, April 13 for bail ruling by Magistrate Richard Mangosi.
