Warriors head coach Norman Mapeza has expressed his concern over his defense despite playing to a goalless draw versus Sudan in a friendly match played last Sunday afternoon.

The preparatory match ahead of the 33rd Nations Cup tournament which is set to begin on Sunday was played at the Rainfores Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon.

After the match, Mapeza told the media he was elated by his players’ perfomance.
He indicated they played well particularly in the first half but failed to convert chances.

However, the gaffer expressed his worry over his defenders citing he would work more on building a solid defense.

“I think the guys played very well especially in the first half where we had some very clear-cut chances unfortunately maybe the sharpness is not yet there,” said Mapeza.

“I am happy with the performance, but our organisation at the back and midfield I think we still need to work on it.”

The Warriors defense was marshalled by Teenage Hadebe who was also handed the captaincy in the absence of Knowledge Musona who joined Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Hadebe partnered alongside with Gerald Takwara at the heart of defense whilst Bruce Kangwa and Takudzwa Chimwemwe played as left-back and right-back respectively.

Winger Kudakwashe Mahachi and FC Platinum goalkeeper Petros Mhari who were forced off after sustaining injuries have reportedly recovered.

Zimbabwe are in Group B and will play their opening match with Senegal on January 10.

They will then square-off with Malawi in their second match and play Guinea on January 18 in their group’s last match
