South Africa-The late former South African president Nelson Mandela’s house is now in a sorry state after family is failing to pay bills for its maintenance.
The once elegant Houghton house which was used to host world’s top figures while the former president was alive, is now an eyesore.
The electric gate is damaged with portions of the roof fascia missing or collapsing. The tennis court is falling down and the tiled roof of one of the buildings sagging.
The once-manicured pavement garden where well-wishers placed stones painted with messages of hope shortly before Madiba’s death in 2013 is now overgrown and littered with rubbish.
Mandela’s grandchildren Ndaba, Mbuso and Andile have been staying at the house since last year.
