Incarcerated MDC Alliance Harare West legislator Joanna Mamombe and youth leader Cecilia Chimbiri joined South Africa commemorating war liberator Solomon Mahlangu’s life.
Mahlangu was an ANC military wing, Umkhonto weSizwe combatant and was hanged by the Apartheid regime April 6, following murder allegations .
The South African government holds commemorations annually for him and this year marked the 42nd anniversary of his execution.
In a letter scribed from Chikurubhi Female Prison where they are imprisoned for defying Covid 19 protocols, the duo said they saluted the works of Mahlangu.
“I Cecilia Revai Chinembiri a Zimbabwean Patriot, I Honourable Joana Mamombe a Zimbabwean Patriot currently jailed at Chikurubhi female Prison in Harare, Zimbabwe joins the South Africa, the ANC Youth league, the EFF,the DA, the rest of the young people in the African continent in celebrating the life of a hero, a leader, par-excellence,” read the letter.
Before his execution, Mahlangu said, “My blood will nourish the trees that bear the fruits that bear the fruits of freedom, tell my people I love them.
The duo said they were inspired by Mahlangu’s experiences.
“Reflect on our current situation and let us all be Solomon “kalushi” Mahlangu in that they may kill us jail us but, there will be hundreds who are like minded and so the struggle for the struggle for the Zimbabwe we all want will not die,” read the letter.
