MDC-A members Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri have for the third time been denied bail by Harare magistrate Denis Mangosi who ruled the two were not suitable candidates for bail.

The two are facing charges of violating COVID-19 regulations after they addressed a press conference put side Harare Magistrates’ court when they attended court in solidarity with the convicted Makomborero Haruzivishe.

Magistrate Mangosi, in his ruling said the two were repeat offenders and thier application had not changed circumstances at all after their lawyer Aleck Muchadehama had pleaded for their release.

“The state should further enquire weather the circumstances have changed,” he said.

“The defence counsel had applied that the offence itself, was no longer an offence to gather since regulations were now lifted.

“But bail can be denied if the offence is repeated (propensity) in this case the accused commited the offence while they were on bail.”

Magistrate Mangosi said Mamombe was a law maker but still unrepentant.

Magistrate Mangosi dismissed a point made by the duo’s lawyer Aleck Muchadehama who had said the state had no evidence which had been submitted.

The matter has been postponed to April 26.
