Lionel Messi Offered A Contract By The World’s ‘Worst Football Club’

The Barcelona captain and all-time top scorer is currently a free agent after his contract expired on 30 June.

Messi, who wanted to leave the club and submitted a transfer request last year, was unable to agree a new deal after months of negotiations

And after seeing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner effectively become unemployed, Brazilian minnows Ibis Sport Club decided to shoot their shot.

The Recife outfit are infamous for going three years and 11 months without tasting victory between 1980 and 1984, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as a result.

They’ve amassed nearly 300,000 followers on Twitter and used the platform to share a proposed 15-year contract for Messi that featured a number of hilarious clauses

As per the deal, Messi would be unable to wear his favoured No.10 shirt, he’s encouraged to not score many goals and must also admit that Pele is better than the late Diego Maradona, his compatriot and former manager.

Here are the stipulations in full:
• 15 year contract, starting from July 1 2021
• Salary based on productivity (if he deserves it)
• He cannot score many goals
• He cannot become a champion
• He cannot wear the No. 10 shirt (retired in honour of Mauro Shampoo)
• He must swear three times in front of the mirror that Pele is much better than Maradona

With Messi a bit busy at the Copa America in Brazil, the 34-year-old is yet to respond to the proposal at the time of writing.

Although there has been interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, the likely outcome is that Messi re-signs with Barcelona for another two years.
