Knee Injury Forces Nakamba Out Of AFCON

By Staff Reporter

Warriors’ highly rated central midfielder Marvelous Nakamba will not be part of the Zimbabwe men’s senior national team squad set to participate in the AFCON finals in Cameroon next year January.

The Hwange born, sustained an injury on Saturday when Villa were handed a 1-0 defeat by Liverpool away at Anfield.

The injury resulted in Nakamba being substituted in the second half owing to what looked like a groin injury.

But Villa gaffer Steven Gerrard Monday in a pre-match interview ahead of Norwich City game said the injury was serious as previously assumed.

“We sent him for an MRI scan and the news that has come back is not good,” he said.

“The idea is to send him to a specialist on Tuesday and we’ll then know more about the damage and what we’ll need to do going forward.”

Media reports also revealed Nakamba confirmed his injury and said it would place
him on the sidelines for almost two months.

“I am out for about two months. It’s a setback but I will come back stronger,” said Nakamba.

This comes as huge blow to the Warriors who are scheduled to begin preparations and training ahead of the tournament on 23 December.

Meanwhile, Nakamba has become the latest Warriors’ high-profile player to be ruled out due to an injury.

Marshall Munetsi and Brendan Galloway are the other two that are already ruled out due to sustained injuries.
