Villagers in Matabeleland North Province in Nkayi District whose homes were destroyed by hailstorm at the weekend have received foodstuffs, blankets, clothing, and other essentials to cushion them from the disaster.

The shot in the arm came from various Government departments and Agencies in response to the disturbances caused by the natural disaster.

The hailstorm also destroyed public service infrastructure and amenities including schools, roads and clinics.

Government through the Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo said it will continue to monitor the situation in Nkayi to ensure adequate support for the affected people.

“The situation is being continuously monitored in order to ensure appropriate levels of support to communities as they rebuild the infrastructure in their respective localities,” said Minister Moyo.

In his brief to Cabinet Minister Moyo said though the hailstorm had left a trail of distraction while villagers lost grain, food, clothing and other vital supplies.

The most affected areas include Nkayi in Matabeleland North Province, Gokwe North in the Midlands Province and Gutu in Masvingo Province.
