Warriors’ left-footed defender, Teenage Hadebe’s impressive performance in his debut season for Houston DynamoFC finally paid off Wednesday evening.
The tall defender earned two honours in his first season with his new club (Houston) in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States.
Hadebe scooped two awards he was shortlisted for in the MLS a few weeks ago.
The 26-year-old player was shortlised for Defender of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards respectively, following his superb performance for his new club.
Nicknamed Orange Crush, Houston Dynamo confirmed Hadebe as the winner of the two major awards on their website.
“Defender Teenage Hadebe was named the Defender of the Year and Newcomer of the Year,” said the club.
Hadebe joined Dynamo on a full transfer from Yeni Malatyaspor in Turkey’s Süper Lig on June 28 and helped the team keep a clean sheet in his debut match, a 0-0 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 20.
“The 26-year-old led the team in clearances (73) and recoveries (97) until he suffered an injury in Houston’s 2-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC on Oct. 16,” said Dynamo.
“The centerback finished with the third-highest mark in recoveries and with the fifth-most interceptions in 2021 with 31.”
The defender signed for Dynamo as a designated player on a full transfer from Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor in June.
Hadebe became Dynamo’s third most expensive player following a lucrative US$1.65 million deal for three years.
The former Chicken Inn and Highlanders FC’ gangly defender took to his twitter account to express his delight for winning the two awards
“Thanks to everyone that was a part of making a special first year, you just have to believe.
“Driven by God, Inkosi Ivumile, Forevergrateful, #Mymothersblessings,” Hadebe posted on twitter.
