Zimpapers last Friday suspended H Metro’s chief sub editor Washington Gwanzura over a Soul Jah Love condolence message in the paper suggesting a Zanu PF presidium member should have died instead of the artist.
On February 19, 2021, under the feedback column the paper carried condolence messages for the late Zimdancehall artist Soul Jah Love who passed away last Tuesday.
One of the messages read, “Rest in peace Sauro. Your music impacted us in so many ways.”
“We have lost a Zimdancehall legend in you.
“Hatina zvatingaite kutonga kwaMwari.
“If only we had a say, tingadai tati kufe umwe munhu we Zanu PF ari mu presidium.”
In a letter signed by Production Mananger R Mutakati, Gwanzura was informed of his suspension.
“It is alleged that you breached the Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980)Limited Code of Conduct and Grievance Procedure in that you failed to check H Metro publication for the 19th February 2021 and cleared the copy for printing with an unacceptable statement in the feedback column, ” read part of the letter.
Gwanzura was suspended for 14 days without pay and benefits.
He was also barred from setting foot at Herald House till investigations into the matter were complete.
