Government through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) have cleared the inaugural Warriors midfielder Marvelous Nakamba’s Under-17 tournament.

The new development was confirmed in a statement that was published Tuesday the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation (MNF).

“We are excited to announce that we have finally received clearance to host the inaugural Marvelous Nakamba Under 17 football tournament” the MNF announced.

Nakamba’s tournament will be played on the weekend of 19th-20th June in Bulawayo, nonetheless the venue is yet to be confirmed.

Furthermore, the MNF expressed their gratitude towards the SRC and ZIFA who gave greenlight to the former Bantu Rovers players’ tournament.

“It gives us great pleasure to know that we have the support of the football custodians as we endeavour to empower grassroots football through this tournament that will see over 400 budding footballers get an opportunity to showcase the talent that we have in abundance,” the MNF added in their statement.

According to the MNF, the tournament is set to be officially launched on the 11th of June at a local venue, where the participating teams will be unveiled together with the rules and regulations of the tournament.

The MNF also indicated that there are hopeful that the tournament will become a warm-up to the junior league in the country.

Lastly, the MNF revealed that all Covid-19 protocols will be observed, therefore the competition will be played under closed doors, though fans were advised to follow the action on all the MNF social media pages, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
