The United Nations (UN) has reported Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases have increased by 20 percent as there was an Increase of vulnerability and risk factors for women and girls as most countries have enforced lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to UNFPA 2020, “The Covid-19 pandemic has been the fastest moving global public health crisis in the 21st Century causing significant mortality and morbility and giving rise to health and social economic challenges to families which are the primary triggers of domestic violence.”

“Given the lockdown measures women are forced to stay in homes with abusive partners and are at risk of being severely harmed or even murdered.”

“The pandemic has made it hard for them to seek help yet government and non- governmental organisation have limited resources and capacity to meet the needs of all survivors.”
