Sungura artist Albert Gatsi who made waves during the music competition hosted by a local radio station has his eyes on penetrating the international music market.
In an interview Gatsi said following the support he received on the local market he was now working on taking his music beyond the country’s borders.
“As Gatsi, or as Orchestra Mavamboazvo we are aiming to be known internationally,” he said.
Star FM held a musical show in which artists competed in various categories.
Gatsi shocked many as he won against seasoned artists in the sungura music category.
He took the best Sungura award against prominent musicians like Somandla Ndebele and Lucky Kumene.
The Orchestra Mavamboazvo leader said he was grateful to his fans who voted for him.
“I just want to thank my fans for voting and for their timeless support,” said Gatsi.
He began his musical career in 2007 when he released his first album titled Ongororo.
He leads the crew known as Orchestra Mavambo Azvo which has eight band members.
To date he has six albums to his name.
Gatsi said his main purpose for singing was to help people.
He described musicians as preachers who should teach, encourage, and entertain people.
“I sing to help people, because basically a singer is a preacher and should teach, encourage, strengthen, entertain people as well as to uplift God’s name,” he said.
