ESWATINI UNREST Opposition Party Confirms Over 40 People Killed

MBABANE: Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) has confirmed that over 40 Swazis has been killed, 150 treated for gunshots wounds and hundreds missing as King Mswati unleashes soldiers to shot civilians.

 

In a public statement, the PUDEMO President said this information regarding the deaths and or casualties has been sourced from leading hospitals in the country.

 

“In the past 48hrs we have received confirmation from leading hospitals that more than 40 Swazis have died due to gunshot wounds, over 150 presented with gunshot injuries and 53 have or/and are still awaiting theatre operations. We are aware that hundreds of Swazis are still reported missing by their families. This is clearly unacceptable and we call for those who are responsible for issuing and executing these genocidal acts to be arrested, prosecuted and punished” read the statement in part.

 

Eswatini is facing escalating political tensions, peaceful protests in demand for democratic reforms manifested into chaos after King Mswati through Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku issued a decree banning delivery of petitions.

 

King Mswati is ruling eSwatini as an absolute Monarch with Executive, Judicial and Legislative powers, political parties are banned from participating in elections.
