Chibuku Super Cup tournament, Group 1 log leaders Dynamos FC have shown their determination to go far in this year’s competition as well as to end as the group’s winners.
This comes after Tonderayi Ndiraya’s coached side, Dembare, edged Herentals FC 1 nil at National Sports Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The game saw Dembare play their first match in the second-round games of this competition since it was on pause due to a call by government to ban all sporting activities in the country.
Government’s call to suspended all sports throughout the nation including those involving international participation was aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
However, thanks to the government after it authorised the return of the domestic competition and permitted the Warriors to participate in the upcoming COSAFA Cup competition set to start on 7 July.
Dynamos have emerged to be the only team that remains unbeaten in their pool during the Chibuku Cup tournament which is played in a round robin format.
Today’s victory over the Students saw Dembare opening the gap at the summit of the log by six points after six games.
They are followed by Yadah FC who moved to the second position yesterday after surprise 2-1 win over Caps United.
Caps are now on third position with seven points though they may move down the log further, since the game between ZPC Kariba and Harare City is yet to be played following its suspension due to positive case for Covid-19 that were recorded at ZPC Kariba camp.
Meanwhile, Herentals’ defeat means they remain at the bottom of the group. They still anchor the group with two points.
The Harare giants took their lead in the 75th minute, courtesy of new signing Albert Eonde who was signed from the reigning champions, FC Platinum.
The Cameronian, Eonde, came in as a second half substitute and grabbed the only goal of the match, though thanks to Tinashe Makanda who provided the striker with an assist.
Makanda, a former Highlander FC striker also got introduced in the second half as a substitute in what looked like a tactical change.
Dembare scored their solo goal after Innocent Benza’s side were reduced to 10-man after defender Dereck Chitsanzara received a second yellow card of the match following an inappropriate challenge on King Nadolo.
Dynamos’ next assignment is against the resuscitated Yadah FC on Sunday at National Sports Stadium while Herentals are likely to face ZPC Kariba.
Caps United will clash with Harare City FC as coach Llyod Chitembwe faces his childhood and former paymasters, Caps United then red-hot Ishmael Wadi will also face his former employers, Harare City.
