The Premier Soccer League (PSL) sponsors, Delta Beverages, have revealed their preparedness to continue in sponsoring the domestic league, after the country’s long wait to the resumption of football.

This comes as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak that forced the government to place all football activities on hold in a way to curb the spread of the virus.

Speaking to SlyMediaNews, Delta Corporate Affairs Director, Patricia Murambinda said they await the PSL’s guidance over the matter of local league sponsorship.

“As Delta we are waiting to get guidance from the PSL on sponsorship issues in view of football suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Murambinda said.

However, on Wednesday the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) approved the resumption of low risk sporting activities such as Golf, Tennis, Cycling and Swimming.

In this regard, the return of football in Zimbabwe remains in limbo, despite a positive call that was made last month by the Covid-19 Special Board Committee (SBC).

The Covid-19 SBC granted greenlight to the resumption of football in the country with their recommendations awaiting approval from the Minister of Sports, Kirsty Coventry.

Minister Coventry highlighted that full sporting activities will be allowed in the country once national associations prove they can protect their athletes through frequent Covid-19 testing.

Zimbabwe has gone for one year without football and a huge outcry to the resumption of the sport has been raised by players, clubs and several other football stakeholders.
