Chiweshe-A Chiweshe man, Luke Mashanje from Wandire village in Mazowe under Chief Negomo has dragged his son in law before the chief’s court demanding ZWL300 000 dowry.
Appearing before Chief Negomo, Mashanje accused his son in law Godknows Murombo of disregarding his promise to pay the bride price when he appeared before the same court sometime in April 2019.
The disgruntled Mashanje is demanding that his son-in-law pays the full bride price without delay.
Mashanje told the court that Murombo has been staying with his daughter Melusi without following proper traditional marriage processes.
In April 2019 Godknows appeared before the same court over the same issue and ony managed to pay a goat, one blanket and a cloth towards the pride price.
Mushanje is demanding that he be paid 3 cows, and ZWL$300 000 or the USD equivalent.
“The items which are written on the paper are true and that is what I want to be paid.” Mashanje told the court.
In defense, Murombo said he loved his wife but economic challenges have let him down.
“I still love my wife and I am still looking for the money, but as soon as I get some money, I will pay everything,” Murombo told the court.
Handing down his judgement, Chief Negomo said Mashanje should return to the court on the 30th of April with two cows (mombe yechimanda), and another as part of the dowry
“You shall then be given another date on the 30th of April 2022 to pay the remaining bride price,” Chief Negomo ruled.
