Sprinkling red chillies and salt on the private parts of his cheating wife’s lover terribly backfired for a Harare man and his colleague after they were slapped with four-year jail terms.

The incident happened in Dangamvura last month.

Lovemore Mukodzongi (21) and his friend, Joshua Mahachi (26) will however, serve effective three-year jail terms after 12 months of their sentences were suspended on condition of good behaviour by presiding magistrate Prisca Manhibi.

However, their co-accused, Nyasha Mukuze (35) pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody for trial.

Tafadzwa Chiwanza represented the State and said the complainant Talent Deure (32) was having an affair with Mukodzongi’s wife, Shelter Mabhuku.

It is the State’s case that Mabhuku would invite her lover to their matrimonial home whenever her husband was away.

“On October 29, Deure was in bed with Mabhuku at Mukodzongi’s home when Mukodzongi arrived with his two friends at around 2am,” said Chiwanza.

“Deure hid under the bed, but Mukuze saw him. “Mukuze pulled Deure from under the bed.

“Mukodzongi took out two knives, and a slasher, and placed them on a red-hot stove.

“After a while, he retrieved the hot knives and slasher, and used them to torture Deure all over the body, Mahachi was standing guard at the door and blocked Deure from escaping.”

It is the State’s case that Mukodzongi burnt Deure on the hands, back, thighs and legs with the hot knives, while his friends and wife watched.

It was alleged that Mukuze joined in, and slapped Deure on the cheeks.

Mukodzongi proceeded to take red chillies and salt, and sprinkled them on Deure’s private parts.
