A 28-year-old man from Fort Rixon has been hauled before Bulawayo magistrate Rachael Mukanga, facing charges of rape.

The accused, (name held for security reasons of the victim) is accused of sexually assaulting a 10 year old girl at her homestead after visiting and found that she was alone at home.

Prosecutor Ashley Dube told the court the accused person visited the complainant’s place where he realized the minor’s parents were not around and took advantage of their absence to rape her.

The offence is said to have been committed at plot 1 Thornville, Moyana Farm, Fort Rixon on April 1, 2021.

“On April 1, the man who resides at a neighboring plot proceeded to the complainant’s place of residence and discovered that the complainant’s parents were not around.

“The man invited the ten-year-old complainant to an abandoned house. “Inside the house, the man removed the minor’s panties and knocked her to the ground.

“He raped the minor without using any protection,” prosecutor Dube told the court.

The accused appeared in court on Wednesday and Magistrate Mukanga remanded him in custody to June 4, with the state urging him to apply for bail at the High Court.
