It was a battle of Platinum teams at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane today (Thursday) in a Chibuku Super Cup mid week fixture which saw Ngezi Platinum Stars handing rivals FC Platinum their first defeat in the tournament.

Norman Mapeza’s side took the lead in the first half courtesy of former Soccer Star of Year Silas ‘Solar’ Songani who tapped-in with his right foot in the 28th minute.

Songani’s goal saw Rodwell Dhlakama’s side going into half-time trailing by 1 goal.

However, in the second Dhlakama’s tactics paid-off as he handed youngster Bruno Mtigo his debut replacing Anelka Chivandire in the 84th minute.

With only five minutes left to fulltime the promising midfielder only managed to play five touches till full time.

The five touches were all the Mhondoro based side needed as they resulted in a brace which inspired Ngezi Platinum to once again come back from behind to win by 2 goals to 1.

The debutant, Mtigo, became the hero of the day since Ngezi had suffered a huge blow in the 28th minute as rejuvinated Denver Mukamba sustained an injury.

Mukamba has turned to be a key player in the Ngezi Platinum squad, he has been instrumental in all their victories as they made it three out of three today.

The victory saw Ngezi Platinum Stars becoming Group 4 log leaders with 9 points from 3 games, followed by FC Platinum who are on 6 points from the same number of games.

Triangle are seated on third position with 2 points while Hwahwa FC anchor the group with 1 point.
FC Platinum coach Mapeza criticised the referee of the day, Thabani Bamala after he red-carded defender Gift Bello for challenging his decision.

“What kind of officiating is that?” Mapeza said in an interview.

“If this kind of officiating starts to happen now in the Chibuku tournament which is regarded as a warm up to the league, then what will happen during the league.”

Meanwhile, Dhlakama was delighted by his side’s come back and praised new boy Mtigo.

“I am happy for the team and I am happy for the boy Bruno Mtigo who managed to score two goals and hand us a win,” Dhlakama said.
