Information says at least 120 students from St David’s Bonda High School have tested Covid-19 positive.
Anglican Church authorities have confirmed the issue.
The students mainly from Form Fours and Sixes stream were confirmed positive on
Friday after undergoing tests this week.
On his tweeter handle Information, Broadcasting and Publicity permanent secretary, Nick Mangwana said the confirmation of the Covid-19 cases at Bonda led to the cancellation of the children independence party that was supposed to be hosted by President Mnangagwa at the State House today.
“This was Manicaland set up before the bad news about 120 learners at Bonda testing positive to Covid-19 leading to the postponement of the children’s party.”
Anglican Diocese of Manicaland registrar, Mr Ashly Mutungura, also confirmed the issue and said the situation was under control.
The church leadership led by Bishop Eric Ruwona visited the school this morning.
Meanwhile Primary and Secondary Education Minister Cain Mathema is appealing and urging parents and guardians to work with their school Heads.
The Minister is also urging parents to inform the school heads of any developments or signs that the child is not well.
The minister is also appealing and urging parents to report to the school heads of any relatives showing signs of Covid19.
“The fight against Covid19 in schools, whether boarding or day, require full participation of parents and all families,” Matema said.
“It is not a crime that we report signs of Covid19. It is the duty of every family to work with schools’ heads and the health officials.”
“No school alone can fight Covid19.”
“Please let us all join hands in the fight against Covid19 in schools .No family should spread Covid19 because of fear of reporting signs among family members and in reporting you are protecting your child your family, your neighbours and the whole country.”
“Please, as families, let us join hands with H.E. President E.D Mnangagwa in the fight against Covid19 in schools.”
