The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has issued a ‘no vaccination no buyers licence’ protocol for all Auction Floors.
The 2021 tobacco marketing season kicks off on the 7th April.
TIMB chairperson Patrick Devenish said this Monday when he laid out new Covid-19 protocols for the 2021 marketing season.
“The process of vaccination is already underway with all staff at TIMB being vaccinated to protect them,” he said.
Last week Government designated them as frontline workers.
Recently appearing before Lands Parliamentary Portfolio Committee TIMB board director technical services, Meanwell Gudu said they came up with guidelines to be observed during the marketing season of the golden leaf to avoid exposing stakeholders such as farmers and workers to the disease.
“The industry came up with guidelines which are almost the same as last year,” he said.
Government has classified workers for the tobacco industry as frontline workers and will be vaccinated before the opening of the marketing season.
