ZANU PF supporter Kudzai Mutisi’s comments that only National Youth Services  (NYS) graduates will get first preference for employment across all sectors in the nation, have sparked debate on various social media platforms.
Mutisi made remarks on Monday during an online discussion, on the revival  of the controversial  youth training programme.
Mutisi said NYS was open for youth from all political parties and youths were not forced to join NYS.
He however said failure to train under the programme reduced one’s chances of being employed as the program provided the much needed work experience.
“The NYS cannot be abused if everyone joins,” said Mutisi.
“So if you are in the opposition you should also be able to join the NYS and also participate.
“Please do not live in the past, live in the present.
Mutisi said NYS training would help increase one’s chances of joining the uniformed forces.
“What I can tell you is, the NYS will be the gateway to employment in Zimbabwe, to employment in government whether in the civil service or military,” he said.
“And automatically it will become the gateway for employment in the private sector.
“Nobody is going to be forced to join the NYS. “However, you are going to find that joining is beneficial and not joining is costly.”
Mutisi’s comments follow Cabinet’s approval of the return of the NYS  programme  which was introduced in the early 2000s by the late Youth Minister and Zanu PF political commissar Border Gezi as an orientation programme for youths.
