Harare giants, Caps United, Wednesday, finally got their grip, securing their first victory after playing three games in the 2021 Chibuku Super Cup competition.
Makepekepe’s win might have came at a right time, to boost their moral ahead of the much anticipated Harare derby which is set to be played this coming Sunday.
The Green Machine came from behind to beat a bogey side Herentals FC by 2 goals to 1 at the National Sports Stadium.
Thanks to goals that came through Tinashe Balakasi and Blessing Sarupinda.
Balakasi capitalised on a failed clearence by the Students’ midfielder Dereck Chitsanzara and saw his shot level matters in the 21st minute.
His (Balakasi) equaliser came after Herentals defender Gibson Chinobva had put the Innocent Benza side in-front just after minutes into the match.
Chinobva converted a penalty past goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga though his effort failed to give Herantals their first win in the competition.
Highly-rated midfielder, Sarupinda found the back of the net in the 60th minute, through a powerful header courtesy of Ronald Chitiyo’s assistance.
Chitiyo provided a beautiful cross from the left side and Sarupinda utilised the chance to give his coach Darlington Dodo the first ever lead and victory in this year’s Chibuku tournament.
Moreover, the victory saw Caps going to the summit of the log, leading Group 1 by five points from three games followed by their rivarls Dynamos who are on four points though with a game in hand.
Dembare are lined up against ZPC Kariba this afternoon in their third Chibuku Cup fixture.
Meanwhile, Caps United gaffer Darlington Dodo was delighted with his side’s victory over Herentals.
“I am happy the boys showed some character by coming from behind. We conceded through a penalty in the early minutes into the game but thanks to the boys who managed to fight back and secure a win,” he said.
The former Tsholotsho FC coach, Dodo also described the win as a huge boost ahead of Sunday’s derby against Tonderai Ndiraya’s side, Dynamos FC.
“The result came at the time, it amplifies a huge boost ahead of the Harare Derby,” he added.
