Armed robbers wearing Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) uniforms masquerading as officers are on the prowl in various parts of the country.
The armed robbers had been breaking into victim’s houses and mostly in Mashonaland West province.
In a statement Tuesday night, the ZNA said the gang is moving around while dressed in ZNA and ZRP regalia to fake their intentions.
“The numbering four to six criminals will be dressed in ZNA camouflage uniforms and others in civilian attire acting as criminal investigation department police officers” ZNA has warned.
The ZNA said the gang is also in possession of fake search warrants signed by the Commander Defence forces to confiscate people’s goods and stealing.
“The robbers produce fake search warrants to unsuspecting individuals whilst the victims are in a state of panic and fear they then confiscate goods and other valuables. The fake warrants are purportedly signed by the commander Defence forces claiming that the bearer has the authority to search premises or individuals and seize any articles which may lead to acts of terrorism,” said the Zimbabwe National Army.
There have been a number of recorded cases of such incidents in Mashonaland West.
“Unsuspecting members of the public have resultantly been robbed and there have been a number of reports of such robberies through the use of fake search warrants in Chegutu, Kadima, Chinhoyi, Christon Bank and Mazowe,” the ZNA added.
