Activists Fire Warning Shots As Court Set To Sentence Makomborero Haruzivishe

Pro-democracy and human rights defenders have warned the government about the incarceration of Makomborero Haruzivishe who is yet to face sentence tomorrow.

Haruzivishe was convicted last week on the charges of inciting public violence sometime last year, according to the state.

Promise Mkwanani of the Tajamuka/sesijikile movement said, ” tomorrow the regime has to free Makomborero Haruzivishe or face something it has never faced or imagined facing before. The choice is the regime’s!!! ?

ZINASU, student union leader, Takudzwa Ngadziore who also has a plethora of cases before the court has demanded the release of Haruzivishe.

Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDCA) youth president has been making noise on social media since last week when Haruzivishe was convicted, mobilising people to unite and demand the release of the convicted human rights defender.

“The GoZ led by Mnangagwa convicted a 29-year-old youth leader, they intend to sentence him on Tuesday. His only crime is that he chose bravery over cowardice, he speaks against bad governance & always stands with the downtrodden.

he wrote on twitter among other similar tweets.

Former MDCA youth leader, Happymore Chidziva also sent the same message.

“Makomborero Haruzivishe is a Zimbabwean young human rights defender being persecuted for asking police to stop brutalising informal traders. Lets all tell ED And his regime to stop this injustice,” said Bvondo on social media.

Meanwhile, some law experts have said that Haruzivishe is likely to face a lengthy sentence of up to 20 years for the two charges he was convicted with have a maximum of 10 years each.
