The New Parliament building located in Mt Hampden is a $100 million the project occupyin a 33 square meter piece of land
The new Parliament building is almost 98% complete.
Speaking during a Media briefing at My Hampden in Harare, the project manager of the Contractor Shanghai Construction Group Libo Cai said that the project they used One Hundred Million dollars and the building will accommodate many people.
“In this project we used one hundred million dollars.”said Cai
He added that the Parliament building contains many rooms that can accommodate many people.
“The office building contains more than 600 rooms, among them offices for VVIP ,VIP , Library, all systems server rooms for telecommunication , conference system and fire fighting among other rooms.
“In total ,the office building can accommodate 1 000 people,”he said.
Libo Cai said that this building will strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
“It will be yet another milestone for the China-Zimbabwe friendship which keeps getting stronger year after year.
“This project is aimed at strengthening the friendship and solidarity between the people of Zimbabwe and China while improving facilities in Parliament to ensure better services to Zimbabweans at large ,”said Cai.
He said that this Parliament building was suppose to be completed last year but due to COVID-19 it becomes difficult.
“This project was commenced on 30 November 2018 and we were suppose to complete this project last year but due to COVID-19 it delayed as we faced challenges this two and a half years.
“We fought until we conquer and finally we have come to the completion on 27 May 2022.
“The two governments will discuss on when to handle this to each other,”he said.
The new Parliament building will become a landmark building in Zimbabwe and even in the whole of Southern Africa.
